چکیده

Abstract Purpose This study aimed to investigate the reliability of surface electromyography (EMG) assessed at seven muscles during three repeated 2000 m rowing ergometer sessions. Methods Twelve male well-trained rowers participated in a measures design, performing sessions interspersed by 3–7 days (S1, S2, S3). Surface electrodes were attached gastrocnemius, biceps femoris, gluteus maximus, erector spinae, vastus medialis, rectus abdominis and latissimus dorsi for EMG analysis. Results No differences existed between amplitude any ( p = 0.146–0.979). Mean coefficient variation 6 7 was ‘acceptable’ (12.3–18.6%), although classed as ‘weak’ gastrocnemius (28.6%). intra-class correlation values across ranged from ‘moderate’ ‘very large’ (0.31–0.89). Within-session activation rates medialis greater 0–500 1500–2000 segments, compared with 500–1000 1000–1500 < 0.05). Values femoris maximus significantly higher The general pattern m. However, there no between-sessions 500 segments > Conclusion Reliability over generally ‘acceptable’. seemingly not sensitive enough detect potential changes neural between-sessions, respect pacing strategy.

Consistency of pacing and metabolic responses during 2000-m rowing ergometry.

PURPOSE This study investigated the pacing strategy adopted and the consistency of performance and related physiological parameters across three 2000-m rowing-ergometer tests. METHODS Fourteen male well-trained rowers took part in the study. Each participant performed three 2000-m rowing-ergometer tests interspersed by 3-7 d. Throughout the trials, respiratory exchange and heart rate were rec...

Reliability of cardiorespiratory measurements during wheelchair ergometry.

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the stability of measures of heart rate (HR) and oxygen uptake (VO2) during repeated 30-minute bouts of constant work-rate wheelchair ergometry. Ten able-bodied subjects (seven male; three female) completed three sequential, single-stage wheelchair ergometer propulsion tests, to exhaustion, at least 48 hours apart, to determine the reliability of mea...

Reliability and effect of sodium bicarbonate: buffering and 2000-m rowing performance.

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to determine the effect and reliability of acute and chronic sodium bicarbonate ingestion for 2000-m rowing ergometer performance (watts) and blood bicarbonate concentration [HCO3-]. METHODS In a crossover study, 7 well-trained rowers performed paired 2000-m rowing ergometer trials under 3 double-blinded conditions: (1) 0.3 grams per kilogram of body mass (g/...

Reliability of biomechanical variables during wheelchair ergometry testing.

Wheelchair ergometer testing is used to characterize wheelchair propulsion mechanics. The reliability of kinematic and kinetic measures has not been investigated for wheelchair ergometer testing. In this study, test-retest reliability of biomechanical measurements on a wheelchair ergometer was determined during a submaximal endurance test. Ten nondisabled subjects (seven male, three female), in...

Effect of rowing ergometry and oral volume loading on cardiovascular structure and function during bed rest.

This study examined the effectiveness of a short-duration but high-intensity exercise countermeasure in combination with a novel oral volume load in preventing bed rest deconditioning and orthostatic intolerance. Bed rest reduces work capacity and orthostatic tolerance due in part to cardiac atrophy and decreased stroke volume. Twenty seven healthy subjects completed 5 wk of -6 degree head down...
